8 Lessons You Can Learn from Your Handicapped Pet
Caring for a senior or disabled pet can be tiring and can take a lot out of their care givers. Sometimes we need to take the and remind ourselves how amazing it is to own a pet. All the love we give our pets is returned tenfold. And if we pay attention there is a lot to be learned from the animals in our lives. We asked our friends on Social Media to share the many lessons that their pets have taught them, here are just a few:
1. Acceptance
Even though she’s blind and has backwards back legs (missing both fibulas). Our kitten has no idea that isn’t the norm. She is so carefree and plays nonstop. A true inspiration. - Carolyn Rychcik
Our differences are what makes us unique. Take the time to appreciate the uniqueness around you.
2. Unconditional Love
Never be afraid to love something different. - Dallas Powers Neal
The love and loyalty of a pet is an amazing thing, and there is nothing quite like it. Love deeply and unconditionally.
3. Live in the Moment
There is joy to be found in every moment. And just because there are limits, it doesn’t mean that the limits define you. - Susan Paquette
Our pets find happiness in the smallest moments, every second is precious. Learning to enjoy every moment while it's happening is a gift.
4. Persistence
True love, patience and never giving up - Niki Peer
Bogart has taught me that even if you fall a million times a day, what that matters is that you get up a million and one. - Kimberly Anne
Bogart may be a bit unsteady on his feet, and may fall down every once in a while, but he refused to give up. Bogart's persistent nature will help him as he learns to navigate life in his new Walkin' Wheels wheelchair.
5. Patience
Molly, this little bundle of love, has taught me the value of patience and perseverance. I think of one the most important things she is teaching me now is never take anything for granted because life is short. I love and miss her. - Sonya Jones
With a little bit of patience and determination, Molly taught her family to always keep going.
6. Strength
With her 12 years of love, Zoe has taught me strength. Her struggle with paralysis and learning to walk again taught me persistence. Through Zoe's 2-year battle with kidney failure, I learned empathy. - Tara Golez
Strength comes in all sizes, and although Zoe was tiny her inner strength helped her to push through all of the challenge's life threw at her.
7. Happiness is a Choice
Through all his struggles Buddy has taught me that happiness is a choice and I choose to be happy every day. - Luciana Rangel Facci
Sometimes the hardest choice we have to make each day is to choose to be happy. Buddy is a shining example of how a happy demeanor can change your entire outlook!
8. To Give Back
Gunnar taught me compassion, strength, love, and the importance of paying it forward. - Jason Parker with Gunnar
After his beloved dog, Gunnar was hit by a car and became paralyzed, Jason's community raised the money to get Gunnar his first set of wheels. Inspired, Jason Parker created the Gunnar’s Wheels foundation to pay it forward. Donating over 1,000 wheelchairs to dogs in need.
