Custom Turtle Wheelchair Helps Injured Tortoise Walk Again

Scoot Reeves is one very lucky Florida Tortoise. When most people would have given up an turtle who can't walk, Sasha and Shannon had hope. They knew they could help and they could get Scoot Reeves a fighting chance to live his best life.

Meet Scoot Reeves

When Scoot was brought to Hillman Veterinary Clinic he was in rough shape and severely injured. Run over by a front end loader he was left with his back legs paralyzed and his shell cracked. The doctor was concerned for Scoot’s quality of life, but Vet Techs, Sasha Corbett and Shannon Chavers have a soft spot for special babies and knew there had to be a way to get Scoots back on his feet again.

Meet Rosalie the American Bully

Rosalie American Bully Quad Wheelchair

Rosalie and her siblings were born at the Hillman Veterinary Clinic, right away you could tell that there was something different about Rosalie. She was born with a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which greatly effected her ability to control her movements. Due to her condition, Rosalie is unable to control her motor functions and mobility has been a struggle from the day she was born. Her owner wanted to put her down. Sasha knew she could give Rosalie the life she deserved and offered to adopt Rosalie instead. Gifted with a wheelchair for life from the Gunnar’s Wheels Foundation, Rosalie has made incredible progress. With the help of her Walkin’ Wheels, Rosalie has been given an amazing chance at living her best life and she’s enjoying every minute!

Improving Turtle Mobility

Sasha was determined to find a solution for Scoot and knew she could get him walking on his own. Rosalie's Walkin' wheels made such a difference in her life and she wanted to give Scoot the same opportunity. Turning to Facebook, Sasha posted Scoot’s story and tagged Jason Parker, founder of Gunnar’s Wheels. Jason jumped into action, immediately contacting Walkin’ Pets. Building custom wheelchairs for different animals is nothing new for Walkin' Pets. Over the past few months, the Walkin’ Pets team has designed wheelchairs for all sorts of animals including ducks, chicken, and geese. Creating a wheelchair for a turtle was an exciting challenge. The Walkin’ Pets team immediately got to work and created the first ever specialized Walkin' Wheels Tortoise or Turtle Wheelchair.

When Scoots got his new wheels he took to them immediately, he’s now the fastest tortoise on two wheels! Even his sister Rosalie was impressed when she saw him!
