This Amazing Animal Shelter in Thailand Needs Your Help!
Meet an incredible couple: Derek and Mali Doyle. They run the Mabprachan Animal Shelter in Thailand, an amazing animal shelter located on the outskirts of Chanthaburi. They currently care for almost 400 rescued dogs and 35 cats.
How the Shelter Started
Derek, a UK national, and Mali, from Thailand, started the private shelter and refuge in 2001. It all started when the couple found a desperately hungry dog outside the gate of their home. They fed her, and after five weeks she presented them with five puppies!
The couple continued to open their hearts to unwanted dogs and cats, and traffic victims, which number very high in Thailand. All of the animals in their care were rescued from emergency situations.
Derek reports,
“We are caring for street dogs and cats, meat trade dogs, and disabled dogs. All of our animals are spayed/neutered and fully vaccinated.”

Disabled Dogs at the Shelter
The shelter cares for 17 disabled dogs. These dogs were all traffic victims who would have died on the road were it not for the shelter.
Derek reached out to Walkin’ Pets for help. Walkin’ Pets was happy to donate a Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair for such a worthy endeavor.
Flight volunteer Geoff Masanet brought the wheelchair to Thailand. A German supporter donated another wheelchair, which Geoff also brought to the shelter.
Derek says,
“I am delighted to inform you that the wheelchairs have arrived at the shelter and our disabled dogs are loving it.”

Nuchara, another rescue dog, also tries out the wheelchair, actually liking it more than treats:

Derek is now 85-years-old and continues to give his life to the animals in his care. The expenses and labor involved in caring for these rescue animals continues to grow.
Donations are greatly appreciated to help cover the cost of food, vaccinations, parasite control, toys, bedding, and medical assistance when needed. Or, you can sponsor a dog or sponsor a cat, and become a rescue partner with the organization.
There have been additional expenses lately, which have created a financial strain on the organization. Several steel constructions having rusted through, causing rooftops to collapse in heavy rain. One of them covers their disabled dog run.
The Mabprachan Animal Shelter is doing tremendous work in helping the plight of disadvantaged dogs of Thailand -- animals no one else will care for. Won’t you help?
