Mini Horse Wheelchair

Disabled Mini Horse Gets a Second Chance

Mini horse Teaspoon may be tiny but she is a true fighter. After suffering what is typically a life-ending injury at only a few months old, Teaspoon never gave up. And neither did her rescuers.

Teaspoon The Mighty Mini Horse

Teaspoon the Disabled Mini Horse

At only 5 months old, Teaspoon has overcome insurmountable odds. A few months ago, Teaspoon's leg become suddenly infected and inflamed. She had been bitten by a poisonous snake on the back of her hoof. Teaspoon was left disabled.

Her back leg became necrotic and was slowly dying. Her only hope to save her life was to amputate her back leg. This surgery is unheard of in the equine world.

Equine surgeons refused to operate and her owners refused to put her down. Knowing they would be unable to care for her, Teaspoon's owners desperately searched for someone who could help. Finally reaching out to Panda Paws Rescue for help.

Amanda at Panda Paws immediately committed to saving Teaspoon’s life and to get her the medical care she so desperately needs. With such a challenging rescue, Amanda reached out to Leanne at Goats of Anarchy. A rescue who cares for special needs goats and other farm animals.

Together Amanda and Leanne coordinated the complicated trip to drive Teaspoon from Louisiana to her new home at GOA in New Jersey. Two volunteers from Goats of Anarchy went above and beyond, flying down to LA to make the long drive back to NJ with Teaspoon!

Mini Horse Gets First Wheelchair

When Walkin’ Pets came across Teaspoon's incredible story on social media, the team knew they had to help. Building Teaspoon her own, full-support Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair, the first ever built for a horse! Using an existing wheelchair frame donated from Panda Paws, Walkin’ Pets added the front attachment, wheels and struts needed to convert the wheelchair into the 4- wheel, full support cart she needed.

Teaspoon took to her new wheelchair right away! With her amputation scheduled for later this week, Teaspoon’s wheelchair will help support her and keep her moving throughout her rehabilitation process until she’s ready for a prosthetic limb.
