How a Pet Brings Happiness to Your Home

No matter how big or small, a pet can bring happiness to us all. You might be surprised to learn how quickly a little ball of fur can steal your heart. For those of you who are animal-lovers but haven’t made the plunge in adoption just quite yet, you might want to keep reading for that extra push on making the decision.

The addition of a pet can help bring a whole different type of love to the table. Adding a furry family member to your home can help lighten the mood. Here are a few ways that a pet can bring happiness to our home:

From physical to emotional health, pets can make a huge impact. Having a pet in our homes can help us live a much healthier lifestyle—which makes us happier!

If you have a dog as a pet, you’ll be much more inclined to take them on a walk after dinner instead of letting them out in the yard. This will get you up, moving, and reduce that laziness in your system. We also actually walk faster with our pooch than when we walk with human friends—talk about physical exercise and all of its benefits!

Possible Health Benefits

When exposed early on in life to a dog or cat, a child is less likely to run the risk of developing an allergy. Our contact with pets as children can help our bodies get accustomed to those types of germs—increasing the antibodies in our system and helping us fight sicknesses later on. If a growing baby in the mother’s womb is exposed to dogs, it’s actually proven that the child will have a lower risk of developing eczema.

Pets have an effect on our stress levels, cardiovascular problems, blood pressure, and overall well-being.

If you are living on your own, having a pet can help fill that void. Not only do they keep you busy, they give you someone to talk to (even though they might not talk back). But they also help elevate our mood—keeping us happy, cuddled (usually), and entertained.

Across the board, pet owners tend to be happier people. Pet owners less frequently suffer from depression, and are more conscientious of their health and fitness level. It’s also actually scientifically proven that pets help trigger a bigger release of oxytocin, the feel-good hormone. Pet owners are happier than non-pet owners!

Pets Unite People

A wandering dog in the middle of a family fight can help lighten the mood. A couple who has gone past the honeymoon phase can benefit from the introduction of a third member of the family.

Pet owners—of dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish, and even ferrets—have something in common. United in the love they feel for their pets!

These truly valued companions, no matter what type of animal they are or how big or small they are, can have such an impact on our lives. Not only are they loyal and give us someone to come home to, but they also help us physically, mentally, and emotionally. So, if you are living on your own and haven’t got someone to turn to, you can always rely on your pet being there for you when you walk in the door. If you’re looking to grow your family but aren’t sure about another human, a pet is always a good choice.
