Rescue Dog's Christmas Wish

A Christmas Wish for Hope

Walkin' Pets combines forces with two Southern California animal rescues to make a paralyzed rescue dog's dreams come true, just in time for the holidays.

Hope's Beginnings

Handicapped dog named Hope

Scared, injured and alone Hope wandered the streets of Mexico. She had been born without the use of her rear legs and completely paralyzed in the rear. She had survived by dragging her body through the streets. This tiny pup defied all odds. Despite her age, tiny size and disability this tiny apple head chihuahua was able to survive on her own.

Found by an independent Mexican rescue, Hope was saved. Hope was in terrible condition and in desperate need of health care. Her belly was raw, scrapped and injured from crawling on the ground. Her Veterinarian was discouraged and didn't believe she could be saved. They recommended putting her down. The Ozzie and Friends rescue stepped in to save her, bringing her across the border to California where she could be fostered and cared for.

Wishing for Wheels

Hope visit rescue event and makes her wish for a dog wheelchair.

OAF connected Hope with her foster dad, Joe. Joe spent weeks lovingly caring for Hope and helped to heal her physical and emotional wounds. Well on the road to recovery, Hope’s foster dad decided to bring her to the Santa Paws event in Huntington Beach to meet Santa Claus. Sponsored by the Waggin’ Trails Rescue Foundation.

Hope's sweet personality touched the hearts of everyone she met. And her story stuck with the volunteers. The next day, Waggin’ Trails Rescue contacted Walkin' Pets to make a Christmas Wish on Hope’s behalf:

Every dog deserves to run and have fun, and this little girl is no different. We wish for this little girl to have wheels and join all the other amazing animals that are able to get around.

A Wish Come True

Disabled rescue dog gets wheelchair for Christmas

Inspired by her incredibly story, the Walkin’ Pets team jumped into action to make Hope’s Christmas wish came true. And sent Hope a Mini Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair to help this tiny chihuahua walk on her own for the first time.

Thanks to her new wheels, Hope is now mobile and getting around on her own! With one wish granted, there was one more big wish to go, finding her forever home. With the combined effort of two amazing rescues, Hope’s second wish came true! Just in time for Christmas, Hope moved into her new home @hope4wheels!
